When your hormones shift, you feel it everywhere

Perimenopause, menopause, and surgical menopause can lower testosterone along with estrogen. Many women notice changes like these — and are told it’s “just part of getting older.”

Low or absent sex drive
Fatigue that sleep doesn’t fix
Mood swings or irritability
Brain fog and trouble focusing
Poor sleep or night sweats
Hot flashes
Weight gain, especially around the middle
Loss of muscle tone and strength

You don’t have to accept these as your new normal. A hormone evaluation with Katy starts with listening to your symptoms and looking at your labs — then building a plan around you.

The basics

What is testosterone pellet therapy?

Hormone pellets are tiny, custom-compounded cylinders of bioidentical testosterone — about the size of a grain of rice. In a quick office visit, Katy places the pellets just under the skin of the upper hip. From there, they dissolve slowly and release a low, steady dose of hormone over roughly three to four months.

Because the release is continuous, pellets avoid the daily ups and downs many women experience with creams, gels, or pills. There’s nothing to apply, nothing to remember, and no risk of transferring hormone to a partner or grandchild through skin contact.

Testosterone isn’t only a “male” hormone. Women make it too, and levels fall gradually with age — and can drop sharply after the ovaries are removed. Restoring it to a healthy, physiologic range is the goal of pellet therapy.

Why EvexiPEL®

Not all pellet programs are the same

Katy uses the EvexiPEL® method, a structured approach to pellet therapy built around lab-driven dosing and follow-up — not a one-size-fits-all pellet count.

Dosing based on your labs

Your dose is calculated from your bloodwork, symptoms, weight, and history using EvexiPEL’s dosing methodology — then fine-tuned at follow-up so your levels land in a healthy range for you.

Patented bioidentical pellets

EvexiPEL® pellets are plant-derived hormones that are structurally identical to what your body makes, compounded by an FDA-registered, PCAB-accredited pharmacy under strict quality standards.

A trained provider, not a kiosk

Katy is a board-certified nurse practitioner with additional certification in urology and more than 15 years in medicine. Your hormone care is part of a full urology and sexual-health practice — with a physician-led team behind it.

How it works

From first visit to feeling better

1

Consultation & labs

Katy reviews your symptoms, health history, and goals, and orders a comprehensive hormone panel so treatment is based on data, not guesswork.

2

Your personalized plan

Together you go over your results. If pellets are a good fit, Katy calculates your starting dose and explains what to expect, including cost.

3

In-office insertion

After numbing the area, Katy makes a tiny opening in the skin of the upper hip, places the pellets, and closes it with a small bandage. Most women are in and out in about 15 minutes.

4

Follow-up & re-insertion

Labs are rechecked about 4–6 weeks after your first insertion to confirm your levels. Re-insertion is typically scheduled every 3–4 months, with dosing adjusted as needed.

What women tell us

Potential benefits of balanced testosterone

Everyone responds differently, and results depend on your starting levels, your overall hormone picture, and your health. With a properly dosed and monitored plan, many women report:

  • Renewed sexual desire and satisfaction — the best-studied benefit of testosterone therapy in women after menopause
  • More consistent energy and less of the mid-afternoon crash
  • Steadier mood, with less irritability and anxiety
  • Better sleep quality
  • Sharper focus and mental clarity
  • Improved strength and muscle tone alongside regular exercise
  • Relief from menopause symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats as part of a complete hormone plan

Timing: what to expect

Some women notice a difference within one to four weeks of their first insertion. For others, the full effect builds over the first couple of insertion cycles as Katy fine-tunes your dose. Follow-up labs make sure you’re getting the benefit without overshooting.

Part of a bigger picture

Testosterone is one piece of women’s hormone health. Depending on your symptoms and history, Katy may also discuss estradiol, progesterone, vaginal estrogen, or non-hormonal options — and she treats the urologic side of midlife too, from overactive bladder and recurrent UTIs to painful intercourse.

Is it right for you?

Who is a candidate?

Pellet therapy may be a good fit if you are:

  • In perimenopause or menopause with symptoms that affect your quality of life
  • In surgical menopause after a hysterectomy or removal of the ovaries
  • Experiencing low sex drive, fatigue, or mood changes with lab work showing low testosterone
  • Tired of daily creams, gels, or pills — or have had inconsistent results with them

Pellet therapy isn’t right for everyone. Katy will review your full history before recommending treatment, and takes extra care with women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a history of breast or other hormone-sensitive cancer, or have certain heart, liver, or clotting conditions.

After your visit

Recovery is simple

  • Keep the bandage on and dry for about 24 hours
  • Skip tub baths, hot tubs, and swimming for a few days while the site heals
  • Hold off on vigorous lower-body exercise (squats, cycling, running) for a few days
  • Walking and normal daily activity are fine the same day
  • Mild bruising, tenderness, or swelling at the site is common and fades within a week or two

Katy will give you written aftercare instructions and a direct number to call with questions.

Cost & insurance

Straightforward, self-pay pricing

Like most hormone pellet programs, pellet insertion is not covered by insurance and is offered on a self-pay basis. We’ll go over exact pricing with you at your consultation before anything is scheduled — no surprises. Your lab work may be covered by your insurance plan depending on your benefits, and our Anderson team can help you understand what to expect.

Because a single insertion lasts three to four months, many women find pellets compare favorably with the ongoing cost and hassle of daily prescriptions. Ask us about pricing when you call: 765-DR-LINKE (765-375-4653).

Questions women ask

Testosterone pellet FAQ

Does the pellet insertion hurt?

The area is numbed first, so most women feel some pressure but little to no pain during the procedure. The site may be tender or bruised for a few days afterward, similar to a small bump.

How long do the pellets last?

For most women, a single insertion provides a steady release of hormone for about three to four months. Your metabolism and activity level can shorten or lengthen that window slightly, which is why follow-up labs matter.

When will I notice a difference?

Some women notice changes in energy, sleep, or libido within one to four weeks. Others see the full benefit build over their first two insertion cycles as dosing is fine-tuned to their labs and symptoms.

Is testosterone safe for women?

Testosterone is a hormone women’s bodies naturally make. Used in physiologic doses and monitored with bloodwork, it is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects include acne or oily skin, increased facial or body hair, hair thinning, fluid retention, or mood changes; these are usually related to levels running high and are addressed by adjusting the dose. Testosterone is prescribed off-label for women in the United States, and Katy will review the risks and benefits with you in detail before treatment.

What lab work is needed?

Katy orders a comprehensive hormone panel before your first insertion, rechecks levels about four to six weeks afterward, and then monitors periodically to keep your levels in a healthy range.

Does insurance cover pellet therapy?

Pellet insertion is generally not covered by insurance and is offered on a self-pay basis. Lab work may be covered depending on your plan. We’ll review the full cost with you before scheduling.

Can I take pellets along with my other menopause medications?

Often, yes. Katy will coordinate your pellet therapy with any estradiol, progesterone, or other treatments you use, and can adjust your overall plan so everything works together.

What if I decide to stop?

Pellets are designed to dissolve on their own and aren’t meant to be removed once placed, so their effects gradually fade over a few months. Katy will talk through this with you before your first insertion so you can make the decision that fits your goals.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed. Call our Anderson office at 765-DR-LINKE (765-375-4653) or request a consultation online to get started.

Good to know

Testosterone products are not currently FDA-approved for use in women, and hormone pellets are compounded medications; prescribing them for women is considered off-label, which is common in menopause care. Individual results vary, and no outcome can be guaranteed. Pellet therapy is one of several options for managing hormone-related symptoms — Katy will help you weigh all of them, including creams, gels, and other forms of hormone therapy, so you can choose what’s right for you.
